TheaterWorksUSA and the York Theatre plan a Cause for Applause NYC benefit on December 7

Artwork for Cause for Applause NYC: A Benefit Cabaret, presented by TheaterWorksUSA and the York Theatre TheaterWorksUSA will hold Cause for Applause NYC, a one-night benefit cabaret, at The Theatre at St. Jean’s on Monday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $38.29, fees included, and the money raised pays for free family seats at the company’s series with the York Theatre.

The performers are TheaterWorksUSA alumni, among them recent touring company members and artists now working on Broadway. No names have been released yet; the company says they will be announced soon. Jillian Carucci, associate artistic director of TWUSA, directs.

The target is at least 100 free tickets for families who could not otherwise afford a trip to the theater. Those seats are for the three family shows TWUSA is bringing to the York: The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System, The Pout-Pout Fish and Click, Clack, Moo. The series was first announced when the company opened its 60th anniversary season with a $600,000 giving campaign.

“For 60 years, TheaterWorksUSA has believed that every young person deserves the opportunity to experience live theater,” said Barbara Pasternack, the company’s producing artistic director.

Joseph Hayward, producing artistic director of the York, said the two companies “share a rich history of collaborating with many of the same talented artists, several of whom will join us for Cause for Applause NYC.”

General tickets are $38.29 including fees, and a limited number of $100 VIP tickets add premium seating and a credit for the buyer. Both are sold through TheaterWorksUSA, which also takes donations toward the free tickets. The Theatre at St. Jean’s is at 150 East 76th Street, on the Upper East Side.
