TheaterWorksUSA, which has spent six decades making theater for young audiences, has opened its 60th anniversary season by launching a $600,000 giving campaign.
The campaign is divided among three funds. The Next 60 Fund pays for general operations. The Free Summer Theater Fund is meant to bring back the company’s free summer program in 2027, putting professional shows in front of children in all five boroughs. The New Works Fund supports the development of new pieces for young audiences. Gifts are taken through the company’s anniversary page.
In New York the company works through two partner houses this season. It opens at the New Victory Theater on October 17 with Rosie Revere, Ada Twist, and Iggy Peck: The Questioneers, the musical for children aged four and up that we reported on earlier this season.
Three titles then move to the York Theatre in 2027:
- The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System, with music and lyrics by Matthew Lee Robinson and a book by Marshall Pailet, listed for January 16. Ms. Frizzle’s class takes a wrong turn on the way to the planetarium and ends up in outer space.
- The Pout-Pout Fish, listed for May 2, co-conceived, directed and designed by the puppeteers of AchesonWalsh Studios, with a book by Christopher Anselmo, Jared Corak, Matt Acheson and Fergus J Walsh and songs by Anselmo and Corak.
- Click, Clack, Moo, listed for May 23, with a book by Billy Aronson, lyrics by Kevin Del Aguila and music by Brad Alexander, adapted from the Caldecott Honor book by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin.
Dates and tickets for the New York performances are on TheaterWorksUSA’s New York listings.
