A whole block of Washington Heights fills the stage in the first production photos of In the Heights at New York City Center. The gala staging opened on Wednesday, October 28 and plays through November 15.
The pictures, by Valerie Terranova, catch the company in full flight under strings of lights, with the De La Vega Deli & Grocery sign and steel bridge girders framing the street. Arms are up, the floor is packed, and the stage is rarely less than crowded.
City Center has also posted a short first-look reel, which it bills as a showcase for the choreography and the energy of the company.
If the player does not load, the reel is on YouTube.
Matte Martinez leads as Usnavi, with Tony winner Natalie Venetia Belcon as Abuela Claudia, Jaci Calderon as Nina, Aaron James McKenzie as Benny, Ashley De La Rosa as Vanessa and Linedy Genao as Daniela. David Mendizábal directs, with choreography by Mayte Natalio and music direction by Alejandro Senior. The full company is in our casting report.
Tickets are sold through New York City Center, with a limit of eight per household.
