The first production photos from Wanted are out, with Solea Pfeiffer and Liisi LaFontaine as the outlaw sisters Mary and Martha Clarke. The new musical is in previews at the James Earl Jones Theatre and opens on November 8.
The pictures are by Julieta Cervantes. Alongside the two leads they show Ledisi as Tallulah Clarke, Luke James as Elijah and Bradley Jaden as Jesse, plus the full company on the timber-framed set.
The story is a true one. Mary and Martha Clarke were Black twin sisters who could pass as white, and used that to stay out of sight as fugitives. Angelica Chéri, who wrote the book and lyrics, is descended from the sisters. Ross Baum wrote the music, Stevie Walker-Webb directs and Chelsey Arce choreographs.
Aurelia Williams plays Sissy and Awa Sal Secka plays Flo, each returning from an earlier staging: Williams from Paper Mill Playhouse, Secka from Signature Theatre. Ximone Rose is the production standby.
The Kinfolk ensemble is Melody A. Betts, Aaron Arnell Harrington, Jennie Harney-Fleming, Rayshun LaMarr, Hailey Thomas and Harris Matthew Turner. The rest of the company is Wesley J. Barnes, Kailey Boyle, Meghan Olivia Corbett, Timothy Hughes, Crystal Joy, Mary Claire King, Brad Sharp, Danielle J. Summons, Nathan Quay Thomas, Katie Thompson and Brent Thiessen.
The production runs a $35 digital lottery, as we reported earlier this month. Full-price tickets are sold through the show’s official website.
