Hole!, the musical that Jake Brasch and Nadja Leonhard-Hooper write and perform as the duo American Sing-Song, gets an Off-Broadway run in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Playwrights Horizons, through January 10, 2027.
There are two people on stage, a keyboard and a foley table, and that is the whole company. Brasch and Leonhard-Hooper play every role between them, switching characters on the spot and reading the stage directions aloud as they go. The show runs about 80 minutes.
The setup is as rude as the title suggests. Members of a Nebraska religious sect never go without a butt plug, convinced that an angry God will one day suck every unprotected sinner off the planet and toward the sun. Ten years after that event, which the show calls “The Great Sucking,” the sect has been proved right, and two best friends from its ranks, Luke and Connor, set off on a cross-country mission to finish what God started.
The pair have said they set out to make something “rigorous” and “stupid” at once, with “secret heart and warmth” underneath.
RJ Tolan, who has led Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Youngblood program for early-career playwrights for more than 20 years, directs. He has staged Hole! with the duo before, at EST, Caveat, the Bell House, Joe’s Pub and the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Sets are by Emmie Finckel, costumes by Hahnji Jang, lighting by Paige Seber and sound by Eamon Goodman. Xhloe Rice and Natasha Roland handle movement, Sara Levine and Sarah Jane Donovan the wigs, and Laura Hirschberg is production stage manager.
The run was announced as November 24, 2026 to January 10, 2027, but the Playwrights Horizons box-office calendar currently starts with a performance on Saturday, November 28. At least one early December date has already sold out.
Tickets for Hole! are on sale here.
