The Heart, Roundabout Theatre Company’s new musical at the Laura Pels Theatre, has added a week. The Off-Broadway run now ends on Sunday, December 13, 2026, instead of December 6.
Roundabout announced the extension on October 30, the day after the official opening on October 29. Previews began on October 8 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre, 111 West 46th Street.
Opening night brought a Critic’s Pick from Elisabeth Vincentelli of The New York Times, who called it “the rare new musical that actually sounds as if it was written in our century.” The other notices are collected in our review roundup.
The musical is adapted from Maylis de Kerangal’s novel Réparer les vivants. It follows one heart through 24 hours, from the accident that ends a young surfer’s life to the stranger waiting for a transplant, with two families and a hospital team caught between them.
Kait Kerrigan wrote the book and additional lyrics. Music, lyrics and arrangements are by Anne Eisendrath and Ian Eisendrath, who also supervises the music. Mandy Moore choreographs, and Roundabout’s artistic director, Christopher Ashley, directs.
The cast is Heidi Blickenstaff (Claire), Lincoln Clauss (Thomas Driscoll), Nick T. Daly (Simon Lamar), Drew Gehling (Dr. Breva), Bre Jackson (Cordelia Owl), Joaquina Kalukango (Marianne Lamar), Max McKenna (Juliette Brooks), Wren Rivera (Marthe) and Jason Tam (Sean Lamar). The understudies are Daniel Brackett, Gareth Keegan, Q. Smith and Emily Somé.
Sets are by Robert Brill, costumes by Sarafina Bush, lighting by Amanda Zieve, sound by Gareth Owen, video by Lucy Mackinnon and hair and wigs by Alberto “Albee” Alvarado. Wendy Bobbitt Cavett is the music director.
Performances are Tuesday through Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m. and on Sunday at 3 p.m. Roundabout has also released the first production photos.
