Photo by Shawn Salley Photography Slam Frank will stay at the Orpheum Theatre into the new year. Andrew Fox and Joel Sinensky’s satirical musical now runs through January 4, 2027, and adds late-night Saturday performances to its schedule.

The extension comes a month after the East Village opening. The show began previews on September 17 and opened on October 4, 2026, at the Orpheum, 126 2nd Avenue, where it has been one of the season’s most argued-over titles downtown.

The premise is a theater company’s own good intentions turned against it: a progressive troupe sets out to retell Anne Frank’s story as an intersectional, decolonized Afro-Latin hip-hop musical, and the satire lives in what that project does to the material and to the people making it. Fox and Sinensky built the script partly from real public statements and online commentary. Sam LaFrage directs, with choreography by Esosa Oviasu and music direction by Alex Harrington.

The notices have been loud in both directions. Former New York Times chief critic Ben Brantley called it “the smartest, gutsiest new musical in years,” and Drew Gillis of the AV Club found its “satire sharp enough to draw blood.” The full critical picture is in our review roundup.

The cast features Olivia Bernábe as Anita (Anne), Alex Lewis as Peter, Amelia Louise Barr as Margot, John Anker Bow as Mr. Van Daan, Austen Horne as Edith, Rocky Paterra as Otto, Jaz Zepatos as Mrs. Van Daan and Walker Stovall as the Assistant Stage Manager. The understudies are Olamide Asanpaola, Ashlyn Combs, Matthew Krob, Isabella Orosco and Keegan Sells.

Scenic design is by Adam Koch, costumes by Sarah Lockwood, lighting by Jamie Roderick, sound by Gage Baker and video by Zack Lobel. The producers are GFour Productions, Stage Time, Steven Brandon, Andrew Fox, Alex Lewis and Joel Sinensky, with Sarah Battaglia, Erin Boeke Burke and Katie Rosin.

Performances are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7 pm, Friday at 8 pm, Saturday at 5 pm and 9 pm, and Sunday at 3 pm and 7 pm. Tickets are $54–$140, with some seats placed on the stage itself for an immersive view, and $40 rush tickets go on sale two hours before each performance. The running time is 110 minutes.
