I Became We extends at Atlantic Theater Company through November 22

The world premiere, in which a sixteen-voice choir sings one woman’s first-person monologue, now plays the Linda Gross Theater through Sunday, November 22, 2026, seven days past its announced November 15 closing.

The production has had a warm press. The New York Times made it a Critic’s Pick, with Helen Shaw calling it “consistently, ecstatically gorgeous,” and our review roundup gathers what the rest of the critics made of it.

Pirnot, an Obie winner whose earlier plays include I’m Assuming You Know David Greenspan, wrote the text as autofiction: a woman in her mid-thirties talks through one of the largest decisions of her life. Here every word of it is sung, set by composer Jack D. Coen in the manner of classical choral music. Coen wrote the lyrics with Pirnot and is also the show’s musical director, orchestrator and arranger.

Sarah Benson, another Obie winner, directs a choir of classically trained New York singers. The design team is Mimi Lien (set), Louisa Thompson and Gylanni Carrington (costumes), Tuce Yasak (lighting) and Palmer Hefferan (sound). Our first look at the production photographs shows the choir in Lien’s set.

The show runs 70 minutes without an intermission. Every performance is open captioned, and an audio-described performance is scheduled for November 12 at 7pm. Tickets for the extra week are on sale now through our I Became We page.
