Linus Karp brings Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story back to SoHo Playhouse in December

Diana tells her own story from heaven, and tells it badly on purpose. The 75-minute show folds drag, puppetry, video and a good deal of audience participation into an account of her life that makes no claim to accuracy. Karp wrote it and plays the princess, and directs alongside Joseph Martin, his partner in Awkward Prods.

The live performance has company on screen. Pre-recorded guests include Jeanna de Waal, who led the 2021 Broadway musical Diana, and the British performer Rob Madge, creator of My Son's a Queer (But What Can You Do?), as Mother Teresa. Zina Badran, Geri Allen and Martin also appear.

This is a return visit. The show came out of a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe and has since toured widely, and both Diana and Karp's follow-up, Gwyneth Goes Skiing, have sold out earlier engagements at SoHo Playhouse.

The company then stays on Vandam Street for the holidays. The (Very Gay) Christmas Prince, written by and starring Karp and Martin, runs December 16 through January 3, 2027: a queer spin on the made-for-TV holiday romance, in which a struggling New York baker lands a commission in the fictional kingdom of Swedonia just as its unmarried prince needs a spouse to keep the crown.

Performances of Diana are listed at 5pm and 9pm at SoHo Playhouse, 15 Vandam Street. The show is recommended for ages 16 and up, and tickets are available from SoHo Playhouse.
