John Proctor Is the Villain sets its Chicago cast at the Goodman

Key art for John Proctor Is the Villain at Goodman Theatre, Chicago: a beaded bracelet reading Burn It Down Chicago gets its own John Proctor Is the Villain this winter. Goodman Theatre has named the nine actors for the play's Chicago premiere, which runs in the Albert Theatre from January 23 to February 21, 2027, directed by Marti Lyons.

Mea Allen plays Shelby Holcomb, Kason Chesky is Mason Adams and Isabella Star LaBlanc is Bailey Gallagher. The rest of the company is Jack Lancaster (Lee Turner), Katherine Mallen Kupferer (Beth Powell), Felicia Oduh (Nell Shaw), Audrey Parker (Raelynn Nix), Daniel Petzold (Carter Smith) and Ani Tonoyan (Ivy Watkins).

The Goodman is producing the play jointly with the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. Kimberly Belflower sets it in a small Georgia town with a single stoplight, where five girls in a high-school English class studying The Crucible start to question the stories, and the men, they have been taught to trust. It played Broadway's Booth Theatre in 2025 and drew seven Tony nominations, including Best Play.

This staging is separate from the West Coast premiere, which begins at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco on November 12 and then travels to Seattle Rep and the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. That company and its dates were announced in October.

The Goodman recommends the play for ages 12 and up and publishes a content advisory on its site. Four accessible performances are scheduled: ASL interpretation on Friday, February 12 at 7:30pm; a touch tour at noon and an audio-described matinee at 2pm on Saturday, February 13; Spanish subtitles that evening at 7:30pm; and open captions on Sunday, February 14 at 2pm.

Tickets are on sale from Goodman Theatre, 170 N. Dearborn Street, and from the box office at 312-443-3800.
