Buena Vista Social Club will give its final Broadway performance at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on January 17, 2027, after 96 weeks and 767 performances. The closing notice comes as the musical is playing in four places at once, with a West End production set to follow in 2027.
The Schoenfeld engagement opened in March 2025, and the more striking number is how far the show has traveled since. This weekend four separate companies are performing it simultaneously: the Broadway cast in New York, the national tour at the Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas, a company at the Antonio Paoli Festival Hall of the Centro de Bellas Artes in Puerto Rico, and another at the Teatro de los Insurgentes in Mexico City. The producers say the three newer companies were all mounted in record time after the Broadway opening.
London is next. A West End opening has been confirmed for 2027, though no theater or dates have been announced. Best of Theatre has the London announcement.
The Broadway run has been an outlier at the box office as well as on the awards circuit. It was the first Broadway musical with a score sung entirely in Spanish, and it has drawn more Hispanic ticket buyers than any production in the history of The Shubert Organization. The tour is posting numbers of its own: its recent Florida stops broke house records in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Lead producer Orin Wolf said: "I am deeply grateful for the time we've had on Broadway – and the speed with which the team has created three more productions. We are thrilled the Broadway production is on schedule to recoup as we look ahead to an exciting tour, special engagements in Mexico and Puerto Rico, and so much more."
Written by Marco Ramirez and directed by Saheem Ali, the musical tells the true story behind the Grammy-winning 1997 album Buena Vista Social Club and the Havana musicians who made it, with an Afro-Cuban band on stage throughout. Its Tony Awards include Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for Natalie Venetia Belcon, Best Choreography for Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck, and wins for Jonathan Deans's sound design and Marco Paguia's orchestrations, while the band received a Special Tony Award. The Original Broadway Cast Recording won the 2026 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
The current company is led by Gina Torres as Omara, with José "Candelita" Iglesias as The Narrator and former New York Yankee Bernie Williams on guitar (we covered Williams joining the band). Xolo Maridueña also passed through the Schoenfeld this year, making a Broadway debut in the show. Two original cast members return for the final weeks: Ashley De La Rosa as Young Haydee from November 16, and Belcon as Omara from November 30.
Tickets for the remaining Broadway performances are on sale through Telecharge, 212-239-6200.
