Purple Rain sets a fan presale for September 22, with public seats two days later

Purple Rain opens a fan presale for its Majestic Theatre run on Tuesday, September 22, and puts the rest of its seats on public sale two days after that.

The presale opens at 12pm ET on Tuesday, September 22, and runs until 11:59am on Thursday, September 24. It is limited to fans who have registered on the production’s website, and registration is still open at purplerainbroadway.com.

Everyone else waits two days. The general public on-sale begins at 12pm ET on Thursday, September 24, through Telecharge, either online or on 212-239-6200.

The production plays the Majestic Theatre at 245 W 44th Street. Previews begin on Friday, March 12, 2027, and opening night is set for Monday, April 12, 2027. No casting has been announced.

The show puts Prince’s 1984 album and film on stage. Minneapolis, the year music television began making stars overnight, and a performer known as The Kid trying to front his band into the spotlight while his past pulls the other way. More than 20 Prince songs are in it, among them When Doves Cry, I Would Die 4 U, Take Me with You and The Beautiful Ones.

Saheem Ali, whose credits include Buena Vista Social Club, directs. The book is by Peter Duchan, whose credits include Dogfight. Tony Award winner Jason Michael Webb, whose credits include MJ the Musical, leads the music team, and Ebony Williams choreographs, with credits including Sneakerella and additional choreography for the Renaissance World Tour. Bobby Z and Morris Hayes, who both played alongside Prince for years, are the production’s music advisers. Orin Wolf produces.

The design team is David Zinn on sets, Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom on video and projection, Montana Levi Blanco on costumes, Justin Townsend on lighting and Gareth Owen on sound, with hair and wig design by Cookie Jordan and makeup by Kyle Krueger. Casting is by The TRC Company, and Amanda Spooner is the production stage manager.
