Starcadia, a new immersive musical about the planets, workshops at Masquerade

A sun puppet looks down on a lit globe in Starcadia Four late nights in October for a ninety-minute show led by The Starpeople, with Hamilton’s longest-serving George Washington as Saturn.

See Humans will workshop Starcadia, a new immersive musical, across four late nights at Masquerade in October. It runs ninety minutes, begins at 10:30 PM, and is built around a company called The Starpeople, cosmic narrators who have opened a portal onto their own realm.

The premise is an old one dressed in new clothes. Once a cosmic year, the planets gather at the edge of the universe to return their energy to the Sun. This year Earth arrives changed, carrying something the others have never encountered: intelligent life, and with it human art, expression and the destruction that trails behind them.

Tamar Greene leads the company as Saturn. He is best known for playing George Washington in Hamilton longer than any other actor on Broadway.

Around him: Liz Gilmartin as Earth, Teddy Wilson Jr. as Mercury and Kendall Grayson Stroud as Uranus, both from Cats: The Jellicle Ball; Michael Olaribigbe as Neptune, from Chess; Melody Munitz as Mars, from the national tour of The Addams Family; Melea Dessommes as Venus; and Teralin Jones as Jupiter, whose credits include The Book of Mormon. Maddie Butterfield, Brayden Co and Gia Marino understudy.

Brayden Martino wrote the book and lyrics and directs, with music by John-William Gambrell and choreography by Carly Corsitto. See Humans is producing it as an Equity Approved Showcase, which is the frame these things usually get a first hearing in.

Performances are October 7, 8, 10 and 11 at Masquerade, 218 West 57th Street, with a free-roaming immersive pre-show and drinks in the Lake Bar beforehand. Tickets are on sale at welcometostarcadia.com.
