Sanders, David Strathairn and Éilis Cahill.

Sarah Stern, the Vineyard’s artistic director, and producer Daryl Roth have scheduled two more readings for their ongoing series at the DR2 Theatre, with further titles still to be announced.

First, on Monday, November 9 at 7pm, comes The Goldsmith, written and performed by Sharone Sayegh. Sayegh originated Anna in The Band’s Visit on Broadway, where she has also appeared in Mamma Mia!, Come From Away and Beetlejuice. Her solo play follows her own family through the gold jewelry handed down across generations, each piece marking a stage of a journey from Iraq to Israel and then to America, and it turns those heirlooms into questions about identity, belonging and acceptance. Zachary Prince directs, with sound composition and music arrangements by Avi Amon.

The piece arrives with some history behind it. It took first place at Theater Aspen’s Solo Flights Festival, won a Reboot Studios Investment Grant, and is due to have its regional premiere at Westport Country Playhouse in 2027.

On Monday, November 30 at 7pm the series turns to The Road to Jerusalem, billed as a play in seven scenes, by Nicky Glossman and directed by James Glossman. It is set in 1879 in and around the small town of Jerusalem, Arizona, where seven linked stories of hope, hunger and fate play out as settlers try to make a new world from what is left of the old one.

The company knows the script. Nicky Glossman’s credits already list a workshop of The Road to Jerusalem with all four readers, and Cahill’s regional work includes Cassidy and other roles in the play. Glossman is also the author of Portrait of a Woman in Repose, which Westport Country Playhouse chose for its 100th Script in Hand reading on October 5, with Tom Hanks, Wendie Malick and Tony Shalhoub.

Morton, an Emmy winner for Scandal, earned a Tony nomination for Raisin and won the Lucille Lortel Award for playing Dick Gregory in Turn Me Loose Off-Broadway. Sanders won the Outer Critics Circle Award for the Roundabout’s world premiere of Primary Trust and played Falstaff in Theatre for a New Audience’s Henry IV, Parts 1 & 2 last season. Strathairn was most recently on stage in Waiting for Godot at the Guthrie, and his films range from Matewan and Eight Men Out to Good Night, and Good Luck and Nomadland.

Roth, a 14-time Tony winner, is also bringing The Fantasticks to Broadway for the first time this fall.

All seats for the readings are general admission at $37.80. Vineyard members can already book The Goldsmith, and public sales open on October 8 at vineyardtheatre.org. For The Road to Jerusalem, members get access from October 27 and the public from October 29.
