A Kidman Carol, Starring Marla Mindelle and Josh Sharp, Heads Off-Broadway This Holiday Season

A Kidman Carol key art with Marla Mindelle and Josh Sharp A Kidman Carol, Kevin Zak's Awards Season spin on Dickens, is coming to New World Stages for a six-week holiday run, with Marla Mindelle as Nicole Kidman and Josh Sharp as Cate Blanchett. Previews begin November 16.

The comedy returns a year after a sold-out developmental run, which raised more than $3,000 for New York Cares. This time it arrives Off-Broadway under Benson Drive Productions, the New York company led by George Strus, with Skylar Fox directing. Performances start Monday, November 16, at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street); the official opening is Monday, November 30, and the strictly limited engagement of 54 performances ends Wednesday, December 30.

Zak, a Lucille Lortel and Queerty Award nominee best known for Ginger Twinsies, sets his play on the eve of the Oscars. Blanchett, recast as Hollywood's own Scrooge, is visited by three spirits, every one of them Kidman, who lead her from her past in the Australian outback through a Tinseltown on the brink and on into a future bleak enough to put her soul, the movies and the wider world at risk. The lesson on offer is what Awards Season is really for.

Mindelle, a three-time Tony nominee and an Olivier Award winner, co-wrote and starred in Titanique, which reached Broadway at the St. James Theatre this spring. Sharp, a Drama Desk nominee, wrote and starred in his own show ta-da! and is one of the stars, writers and executive producers of A24's Dicks: The Musical. The pair also led last year's developmental staging.

Fox, an Obie Award winner and co-artistic director of the company Nightdrive, has created magic for Fat Ham, Once Upon a Mattress and Boop! on Broadway. Casting is by Jason Thinger, CSA, and Envoy Theatricals is the general manager. More casting will be announced later.

Tickets go on sale to the public on Wednesday, October 14, at 10 a.m., through Telecharge online, by phone at 212-239-6200 and at the New World Stages box office. Presale access is available through the production's website, akidmancarol.com.
