Two principal roles in The Great Gatsby change hands on October 14. Chilina Kennedy comes back to the Broadway Theatre as Myrtle Wilson for a limited stint, and Max Monnig makes a Broadway debut as Tom Buchanan, succeeding John Behlmann, whose final performance is October 11.
Kennedy's return is a cover with a fixed end date. The engagement runs through November 15, the weeks in which Linedy Genao is across town as Daniela in New York City Center's gala presentation of In the Heights, which runs October 28–November 15. Genao is due back at the Broadway Theatre on November 16. Until Kennedy arrives, Ryah Nixon, the original company's Myrtle understudy, is playing the part through October 11.
The production has now turned to Kennedy twice: the first time was in 2024, the musical's opening year, when Sara Chase took a medical leave. Other Broadway credits include the title role in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Jesus Christ Superstar and Paradise Square.
Monnig's arrival is a permanent replacement rather than a cover. Monnig comes to the show with an Off-Broadway credit in Glory of the World and television credits on Law & Order: SVU and FBI. Behlmann, the outgoing Tom, recently played Carl Dean in the premiere of Dolly: A True Original Musical.
They join a principal company led by Ryan McCartan as Jay Gatsby and China Anne McClain as Daisy Buchanan, with Corbin Bleu as Nick Carraway, Naturi Naughton-Lewis as Jordan Baker, Charlie Pollock as George Wilson and Eric Anderson as Meyer Wolfsheim.
The musical has music and lyrics by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen and a book by Kait Kerrigan, and is directed by Marc Bruni with choreography by Dominique Kelley. It opened at the Broadway Theatre in April 2024, and the current booking period runs through June 6, 2027. Tickets are sold through the production's website, BroadwayGatsby.com.
