Feast for the Dead, a new play by Madeline Easley, gets its world premiere from Soho Rep next spring, running May 26 to June 20, 2027. Tara Moses directs. A venue has not been announced.
The play is set on Turtle Island, fourteen years after a zombie outbreak swept across it. The settler government is gone. Kay is a warrior of standing in the Confederacy of Tribes, Randy and Lester are playing indie records on RezDog radio, and whether you eat depends on which side of the boundary line you live on. Then the zombies fall apart of their own accord, and the living can finally give their dead a proper burial. A ship is already on the horizon.
Soho Rep calls it a speculative drama, full of action and more humor than the premise suggests, set in an Indigenous future. Easley is a citizen of the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma; Moses is a citizen of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and a co-founder of Groundwater Arts.
Easley, a New York-based playwright born in Kansas City, is a 2025–2027 Venturous Theater Fellow at the Playwrights’ Center in St. Paul, where the play received a Venturous Playwright Fellowship. Her other full-length plays include The Man Came Down and Representatives for Those at Peace. Moses’s directing credits include Pueblo Revolt at Santa Fe Playhouse and Cashed Out at San Francisco Playhouse.
The production has Signal Producing Support from the Civis Foundation, the funding Soho Rep has announced for three world premieres across its next three seasons. Casting, venue and ticket details are still to come.
