Downstate moves its first Broadway preview to October 19, with opening night still November 15

Key art for Downstate on Broadway at the Booth Theatre Downstate, Bruce Norris’s play directed by Joe Mantello, now gives its first Broadway preview at the Booth Theatre on Monday, October 19, two days later than originally scheduled. Opening night stays Sunday, November 15.

Telecharge’s performance calendar for the production now begins with an 8pm performance on October 19. The show’s own website was still listing a first preview on Saturday, October 17, this morning. Neither gives a reason for the change.

The run is a limited engagement, with performances currently listed through February 14, 2027. Norris’s play, winner of the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play, is set in a group home where four men convicted of sexual offenses against minors live under state supervision after serving their prison terms. When a man who was abused as a boy by one of them arrives to confront him, the fallout reaches everyone in the house.

The cast is K. Todd Freeman as Dee, Francis Guinan as Fred, Thomas Sadoski as Andy, Al’Jaleel McGhee as Gio, Cassie Beck as Em, Adrian Martinez as Felix, Ivy Wolk as Effie and Liza Colón-Zayas as Ivy. Freeman won Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle and Obie awards for the play’s earlier New York run at Playwrights Horizons.

Scott Pask designs the set, Ann Roth the costumes, Heather Gilbert the lighting and Mikaal Sulaiman the sound. Casting is by Taylor Williams.

The Booth Theatre is at 222 West 45th Street. Tickets are sold through Telecharge, where prices currently run from $71 to $399.
