Downstate’s first Broadway preview slips a third time, to Thursday, October 22

Key art for Downstate on Broadway at the Booth Theatre Downstate has canceled its Tuesday, October 20 performance at the Booth Theatre because of illness in the company, so Bruce Norris’s play will now give its first Broadway preview on Thursday, October 22.

This is the third time the start has slipped. The first preview was originally set for Saturday, October 17; illness in the company moved it to Monday, October 19, and then to Tuesday, October 20, as we reported on October 16. The production announced the latest change on Monday, October 19.

That makes three scheduled performances, on October 17, 19 and 20, lost before the play has met a single audience, all of them taken out of the preview period. The announcement says nothing about opening night, which was last given as Sunday, November 15.

Ticketholders for the postponed October dates can rebook, and should take any questions to wherever they bought their tickets.

Directed by Joe Mantello, Norris’s play follows four men living together under state supervision after serving prison terms for sex offenses, and what happens when a man who was abused by one of them as a child comes to the house. The company is K. Todd Freeman, Francis Guinan, Thomas Sadoski, Al’Jaleel McGhee, Cassie Beck, Adrian Martinez, Ivy Wolk and Liza Colón-Zayas.

The Booth Theatre is at 222 West 45th Street. Tickets are on sale through Telecharge, online or by phone at 212-239-6200.
