Downstate has lost a second scheduled preview to illness in the company. Bruce Norris’s play, directed by Joe Mantello at the Booth Theatre, has canceled its Monday, October 19 performance and will now give its first Broadway preview on Tuesday, October 20.
The production announced the change on October 16, days after it had already moved its opening preview from Saturday, October 17, to October 19 for the same reason, as we reported at the time. With October 19 now gone as well, the October 20 performance becomes the first time the play is seen on Broadway, leaving the company two fewer public performances before opening night than the original calendar allowed.
Anyone holding tickets for either canceled October date will be able to rebook, and questions should go to wherever the tickets were bought. The production has not announced any change to its opening night.
The company is K. Todd Freeman, Francis Guinan, Thomas Sadoski, Al’Jaleel McGhee, Cassie Beck, Adrian Martinez, Ivy Wolk and Liza Colón-Zayas. Norris, a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner, wrote the play about a group home where men convicted of sex offenses live after prison, and the visit of a man who was abused by one of them as a boy.
The Booth Theatre is at 222 West 45th Street. Tickets are on sale through Telecharge, online or by phone at 212-239-6200.
