The Baby-sitters Club musical sets its world premiere at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, with Natalie Portman among its producers

The Baby-sitters Club: A New Musical key art The Baby-sitters Club: A New Musical will have its world premiere at Center Theatre Group’s Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City, with previews from May 6, 2027, an opening night on May 16 and performances scheduled through July 3. Natalie Portman’s company MountainA is among its producers.

The producer billing runs long for a regional premiere, and it explains how the show was assembled. TWTheatricals, which produced the stage adaptation of The Lightning Thief, leads it. Alongside are Rivka Marker for Linden Productions, the Tony-winning company behind Stereophonic; Naia Cucukov Richards and Lucy Kitada, who were executive producers of the Netflix Baby-sitters Club series; Peter Richards for Working Barn Productions; Center Theatre Group; and MountainA, run by Portman and Sophie Mas. Gregg Arst and Laura Kaufmann of Tanna Entertainment and Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon of LD Entertainment co-produce.

Portman, in a statement, called the books “a formative part of my childhood, as was musical theater.”

The writing team pairs Kate Wetherhead, who wrote the book for The Devil Wears Prada musical, with Mark Sonnenblick, the Oscar- and Grammy-winning songwriter of KPop Demon Hunters, on music and lyrics. Annie Tippe, who directed Octet Off-Broadway, directs and choreographs. Casting, by the Telsey Office and Henry Russell Bergstein, has not been announced.

The musical carries Ann M. Martin’s Scholastic series forward in time. Kristy Thomas is 25 and still in Stoneybrook when she calls Mary Anne, Claudia and Stacey home for a reunion they have put off too long, and the show moves between that reunion and the middle-school years when the club began. It runs 90 minutes with no intermission.

Tickets start at $40.25, fees included. A Friends presale opens October 21 and an Amex presale on October 28 at 10am PT. Priority Access follows on November 4, and single tickets go on sale November 5. Booking details are on Center Theatre Group’s page for the show.
