Millburn, New Jersey has its Bert. Paper Mill Playhouse has named five more principals and the full creative team for Mary Poppins, the musical that opens the theater's 88th season in November.
Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey has completed its company and creative team for Mary Poppins, the Disney and Cameron Mackintosh musical opening the theater's 88th season this fall.
Performances begin on Wednesday, November 18, opening night is Sunday, November 22, and the run continues at the theater on Brookside Drive through Sunday, January 3.
Kara Lindsay, announced earlier as Mary Poppins, is joined by Will Burton as Bert. Burton played Adam in Beetlejuice and Ambrose in Hello, Dolly! on Broadway, and was at Paper Mill in South Pacific in 2014.
Will Blum, John Adams in the theater's 1776 last season, takes George Banks, and Ashley Blanchet plays Winifred Banks in a seventh Paper Mill production. Dierdre Friel is Mrs. Brill and Alvin Crawford doubles Admiral Boom and the Bank Chairman.
The remaining casting is still to be announced. Mark S. Hoebee, Paper Mill's producing artistic director, directs, with choreography by Denis Jones and music direction by Ben McNaboe.
The design team is Timothy Mackabee (scenic), Leon Dobkowski (costumes), Charlie Morrison (lighting), Don Hanna (sound), Kelly James Tighe (scenic coordination and additional design) and J. Jared Janas (wig, hair, and makeup). The TRC Company is casting.
The musical draws on the stories of P. L. Travers and the Walt Disney film, with a book by Julian Fellowes, music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, and further songs by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
A Spoonful of Sugar, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Step in Time are all in the score. The staging is licensed by Music Theatre International, and the National Endowment for the Arts is its signature sponsor.
Single tickets and subscriptions are sold at PaperMill.org, on (973) 376-4343 and at the Millburn box office, open Monday to Saturday from noon to 6pm. Three- and four-show packages start at $120 per person, with lower-priced youth subscriptions for those 18 and under bought alongside an adult package.
Access Services pricing is reserved for patrons using wheelchair seating, audio description, open captioning or ASL interpretation.
Paper Mill has held the Regional Theatre Tony Award since 2016 and has sent work on to Broadway before, among it The Great Gatsby, Disney's Newsies, Bandstand and A Bronx Tale. After Mary Poppins the season runs on to Ken Ludwig's Lend Me A Tenor, Million Dollar Quartet and Dear Evan Hansen.
