The Off-Broadway comedy That Parenting Musical now has a recording of its own. Its studio cast album came out on October 23 on Joy Machine Records, with Christopher Jackson, Kara Lindsay and Tony winner Bonnie Milligan leading the voices.
The show is the work of a married couple, Graham Fuller and Kristina Fuller, who wrote the book, music and lyrics out of their own years of raising small children. It played Off-Broadway at Theatre Row in 2024, directed and choreographed by Jen Wineman, and follows two exhausted new parents trying to work out who they are once the baby arrives.
The recording casts Jackson, the original George Washington in Hamilton, as Dad, and Lindsay, Katherine in Newsies on Broadway, as Mom. Milligan, who won her Tony for Kimberly Akimbo, sings the Single Friend. Two members of the 2024 company return as the children: Max Mendoza Crumm as Child 1 and Vidushi Goyal as Child 2. Scott Rathbun, who played in the show's Colorado premiere and its 54 Below concert, completes the line-up as Todd.
There are 18 tracks, and the score moves through R&B, hip hop, '80s rock and traditional musical theater. Among the songs the show highlights from the record are Yoga Pants, Behind, Glide, Give Me the World and Level Up.
The album was produced by Ian Kagey, Dan Graeber and the Fullers, with Blue i Productions and 19K Productions as executive producers and casting by Daryl Eisenberg of Eisenberg Casting. The release comes as the musical is offered for licensing: it needs six actors and a single band, and the writers are pitching it at regional, community and college stages.
The album is streaming now on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music and Tidal, with links to each on the show's official album page.
