The first production photos of Hospital Hour, the solo comedy Rachel Kaly wrote for herself, are out, with the show already in previews Off-Broadway at The Culture Club ahead of its official opening on Monday, October 26.
The pictures, by Emilio Madrid, find Kaly alone on a small stage hung with a pale blue curtain, working the room with a hand mic, trading a high five with the front row and, in one frame, reading from a laptop propped on a lectern built into a wheeled medical cart.
The material comes straight from the performer’s own records. Kaly has been hospitalized more than 300 times for psychological treatment, and the hour is her attempt to account for that history, beginning with the fact that her first period arrived on the same day Saddam Hussein was hanged.
New York is not the show’s first audience. Hospital Hour sold out runs in Los Angeles and at the Edinburgh Fringe, where it was named one of the Top 10 Live Comedy Shows of 2025, and it also played Soho Theatre in London.
On screen, Kaly has appeared on Comedy Central, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers and, most recently, Amazon Prime’s Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat. Vulture has named her one of its Comedians You Should Know.
Comedian Chris Fleming, an Emmy nominee, directs, and Emmy winner Bob Odenkirk produces. The design team is Sully Ross (scenic), Devin Cameron (lighting) and Germán Martinez (sound).
Hospital Hour is a strictly limited engagement at The Culture Club, 530 W 27th St. Tickets are on sale now through the production’s official site, hospitalhour.com.
