Ethan Slater will remain as Seymour in the Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors at the Westside Theatre, after T.R. Knight withdrew from plans to take over the role on October 27.
Knight’s arrival had been announced together with Hannah Cruz’s, as the next pairing to lead the revival. Slater, a Tony nominee for SpongeBob SquarePants, now carries on in the part instead; no new end date for his run has been given. The change was first reported by BroadwayWorld.
The other half of the handover goes ahead as planned. Hannah Cruz, a 2026 Tony nominee for her Svetlana in the Chess revival, becomes Audrey on October 27, and Betsy Wolfe gives her last performance in the role on October 25. The production’s own site carries the same dates.
Knight said that although he would no longer be joining the show, “I celebrate the magical legacy created by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken,” and the producers said they were sorry he would not be “making his debut on Skid Row.” His most recent Broadway role was Victor Creel in Stranger Things: The First Shadow.
Around Slater, the company includes Claybourne Elder as Orin Scrivello, D.D.S., Stephen DeRosa as Mushnik and Christian McQueen as the voice of Audrey II, with Christine Wanda, Savannah Lee Birdsong and Morgan Ashley Bryant as Ronnette, Crystal and Chiffon.
Little Shop of Horrors runs at the Westside Theatre Upstairs, 407 West 43rd Street. Tickets are sold through the production’s official website, LittleShopNYC.com.
