The New York company of 2:22 – A Ghost Story is in the rehearsal room, and the first photographs put Anna Camp, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Finn Jones and Martin Marquez around the dinner table where the whole play happens. Previews at the Lucille Lortel Theatre begin October 20.
The pictures, taken by Langley Hayman, catch the cast mid-scene at the housewarming that sets the play going. Jenny, played by Cephas Jones, is sure that something moves through her new home at the same minute every night; her husband Sam (Finn Jones) wants none of it. When their guests Lauren (Camp) and Ben (Marquez) are drawn into the argument, the four agree to stay awake until 2:22 a.m. and find out who is right.
Danny Robins came to the stage from audio horror, as the creator of the BBC podcasts Uncanny and The Battersea Poltergeist, and the play has since become one of the most durable exports of the London theater. It has run for seven West End engagements, toured the UK and been staged some 30 times around the world. In 2022, it was nominated for three Olivier Awards, Best New Play among them, and won Best New Play at the WhatsOnStage Awards. This run is its New York premiere.
Camp comes back to Lauren after playing her at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles; on Broadway she appeared in the Equus revival opposite Daniel Radcliffe. Cephas Jones was part of the original Hamilton company as Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds. Finn Jones is known to television audiences as Loras Tyrell in Game of Thrones and as Marvel's Danny Rand, while Marquez arrives from the London stage, where his credits include Dear England at the National Theatre and Brokeback Mountain at @sohoplace.
Matthew Dunster and Gabriel Vega Weissman direct. The design team is Anna Fleischle (set), Cindy Lin (costumes), Lucy Carter (lighting) and Ian Dickinson for Autograph (sound), with illusions by Chris Fisher. Tristan Baker, Charlie Parsons, Runaway Entertainment, Isobel David and Kater Gordon produce, and Andrew "Boz" Bosworth is associate producer.
The engagement is limited to 13 weeks: opening night is November 5, and the final performance is January 17, 2027. The Lucille Lortel Theatre is at 121 Christopher Street. Tickets for 2:22 – A Ghost Story are on sale now.
