Ten actors, one union hall. The company of Classic Stage Company's Waiting for Lefty has met the press, two weeks before Steven Pasquale's staging of the Clifford Odets play starts previews on October 15.
Waiting for Lefty opens the company's 2026–27 season at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater. Previews run October 15 to November 1, and the engagement ends November 22, 2026.
Behind the cast is a directing debut. Steven Pasquale, known for his work as an actor, is directing for the first time, and he has built the evening on music and movement. Yeller Tooth supplies original music and arrangements. That is the duo of Sahar Milani and Cameron Scoggins, who are also in the cast. Susan Misner choreographs.
The full company is Tala Ashe, Raffi Barsoumian, Austin Durant, Greg Hildreth, Adam Kantor, Doireann Mac Mahon, Zach McNally, Milani, Scoggins and Henry Stram. The press-day photographs were taken by Jennifer Broski.
Odets wrote the play in 1935. It puts the audience in a meeting of Depression-era New York cab drivers, broke and worn down, arguing over whether to strike while they wait for their leader, Lefty, to arrive. Pasquale's version turns the whole theater into that meeting room.
The company is also running a series of post-show talks alongside the run, including a November 7 conversation between Pasquale and Cornell labor-law professor Risa Lieberwitz.
Classic Stage Company is at 136 East 13th Street. Seats start at $83 on the Waiting for Lefty tickets page.
