The Obie Award-winning Cherry Lane Alternative will give Marginal Loss, Deborah Stein's play about the survivors of an investment firm that lost its offices on 9/11, its first New York reading at the Clark Studio Theater at Lincoln Center. No performance date has been announced.
The reading is presented by the Cherry Lane Alternative, the nonprofit development organization that relaunched earlier this spring, in association with The Fifth Character and Tuesday's Promise. Mary Geerlof directs. The room is the Clark Studio Theater, inside the Samuel B. & David Rose Building at 165 West 65th Street.
Stein sets the play in the days immediately after the attacks. The handful of employees left from a firm that had its offices near the top of the Twin Towers gather in a warehouse across the river in New Jersey and start rebuilding the company out of records, memory and one another. What none of them can answer is what getting back to normal would actually mean.
The cast is Anjelica Bosboom, Carla Briscoe, Gilly Caulo, Addie Guidry and Rory Max Kaplan.
Marginal Loss had its world premiere at the 2018 Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville. This is its first outing in New York.
The Fifth Character presents the reading in association with the Cherry Lane Alternative and Tuesday's Promise, by special arrangement with United Talent Agency. General management is by Ampersand Theatrical Management, and Eric Carreiro is associate producer.
The presentation is also intended to draw attention to Tuesday's Promise, which supports people affected by 9/11 and by 9/11-related illnesses, and it falls in the twenty-fifth anniversary year. Working alongside other companies and artists in this way is part of what the Cherry Lane Alternative relaunched to do.
No date and no ticketing details have been announced yet. More information is at clalt.org.
