Lucas Iverson takes over from Harry Richardson in Audible Theater’s New York premiere of A Ghost in Your Ear, and the limited run at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre now begins on Saturday, October 3 and plays through Sunday, November 22.
Lucas Iverson joins the company of A Ghost in Your Ear at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre, replacing Harry Richardson, who has withdrawn from the production because of unforeseen circumstances. Iverson plays the actor called into a late recording session; Owen Campbell continues as the engineer on the other side of the glass.
The recasting comes with a new schedule. Performances now begin on Saturday, October 3 rather than Tuesday, September 29, and a further week has been added at the end of the run, which plays through Sunday, November 22. Ticket holders for the performances originally scheduled between Tuesday, September 29 and Friday, October 2 will be refunded to their account and offered the chance to rebook for a later date.
Iverson makes his Off-Broadway debut with the production. He is known on television for James Ogilvie in The Pitt and Simon Coolidge in The Gilded Age, both for HBO, and has worked on stage at Yale Repertory Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre Company and the Williamstown Theatre Festival. He holds an MFA from the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale and will appear in the film Halfway Nowhere.
Written and directed by Jamie Armitage, a Tony nominee for SIX: The Musical, the play puts an actor in a sound studio with a ghost story to read and lets the story come off the page. The audience listens on headphones to a binaural mix by Ben & Max Ringham, the Tony-nominated sound designers of A Doll’s House and Prima Facie. It arrives in New York after a sold-out run at Hampstead Theatre Downstairs in London, which our sister site London Box Office reviewed at the time.
The rest of the creative team transfers with it. Anisha Fields designs set and costumes, Ben Jacobs lights it, casting is by Taylor Williams and general management by TT Partners. A Ghost in Your Ear was originally produced by HFH Productions and Playful Productions.
The London notices were warm. The Guardian called the piece “truly terrifying headphone horror,” the Financial Times “high-tech horror that gets under the skin,” and Time Out “a proper scary little gem” — four stars apiece, as at The Standard and Spy in the Stalls.
Tickets for the extended engagement are on sale now at AudibleTheater.com and at the theater, 18 Minetta Lane. From Saturday, October 3 a limited number of $35 rush tickets will be released each day on the TodayTix app from 9:00am ET, and $35 student rush tickets will be sold in person at the Minetta Lane box office from 1:00pm ET on the day of each performance, with a valid student ID and subject to availability.
