Julie Taymor and Elliot Goldenthal’s The Grand Delusion leads BAM’s Winter/Spring 2027 season

The Grand Delusion key art, BAM Winter/Spring 2027 The Grand Delusion, a new musical by Julie Taymor and Elliot Goldenthal, runs at BAM’s Harvey Theater from May 11 to June 6, 2027. It heads the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Winter/Spring 2027 season, which goes on sale to the general public on November 5.

Taymor won her Tonys for The Lion King. Goldenthal won an Oscar for his Frida score and has been a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Their new piece carries the subtitle A Comic Demonic, and BAM bills it as an erotic musical fantasy with a devilish sense of humor.

The story is set in present-day New York City, India and a mythical realm, and it is a love story about looking for the perfect match. The company mixes musicians, dancers, actors and singers from several countries. Puppetry, choreography and immersive design are all part of the staging.

It is the pair’s first project at BAM, and the Harvey is the house they had long pictured it in. BAM presents it by special arrangement with Chunsoo Shin and OD Company, the producers of The Great Gatsby on Broadway.

Tickets start at $25. BAM members and patrons have been able to book since October 15. The public on-sale is November 5 at 1pm ET. Online and phone orders carry a $3 facility fee and an $8 handling fee per ticket. Full details are on BAM’s page for the show.
