The original Broadway cast recording of Hamilton is No. 1 on Billboard’s Cast Albums chart for the 500th week, a total no other title has reached on any chart Billboard currently publishes.
The 500th week arrives on the chart dated October 17, 2026, eleven years to the week after Hamilton: An American Musical entered the same ranking at No. 1, on the chart dated October 17, 2015. Of its 576 weeks on the Cast Albums list, 500 have been spent in first place, roughly 87% of its life on the chart, Billboard reported.
The distance to the next title is what makes the number stand out. Billboard started the Cast Albums chart in January 2006, and in the nearly 21 years since, only four recordings have held No. 1 for ten weeks or more. Behind Hamilton sit the original Broadway cast albums of Wicked with 355 weeks, Jersey Boys with 75 and The Book of Mormon with 15. Wicked, which led the very first edition of the chart, has added 22 weeks at the top since Hamilton arrived, more than any other album over that stretch.
The recording has done just as much business on the all-genre Billboard 200, where it has now logged 575 weeks and is the only cast album to pass 500. Its highest placing there was No. 2, on the chart dated July 18, 2020, following the Disney+ premiere of the filmed Broadway production. No cast recording had climbed that high since Hair spent 13 weeks at No. 1 in 1969.
The album preserves the original Broadway company, headed by the show’s writer and first title star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, alongside Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Daveed Diggs, Jonathan Groff, Christopher Jackson, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Anthony Ramos and Okieriete Onaodowan. Two later Hamilton releases have also topped the Cast Albums chart: the highlights set Hamilton: 10 Shots (Highlights From the Original Broadway Cast Recording) and the box set Rise Up! Hamilton: The Anthology. Separately, the 2016 covers album The Hamilton Mixtape, whose artists included Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys and Nas, opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Hamilton continues at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, its Broadway home since 2015. Tickets are available on our Hamilton page.
