Goodspeed Musicals in East Haddam, Connecticut, will stage three musicals back to back at The Goodspeed in 2027: Into the Woods, The Heart of Rock and Roll and Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I, from April 30 to December 5.
All three run at the company's riverside opera house at 6 Main Street, and Adam Souza is music director for the whole season.
Into the Woods: April 30–July 4, 2027
Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's fairy-tale musical opens the year, directed by Rob Ruggiero. A childless Baker and his Wife set out to undo a Witch's curse and run into Cinderella, Jack and Little Red Riding Hood along the way, before the second act asks what comes after the wishes are granted.
The Heart of Rock and Roll: July 16–September 19, 2027
The summer slot goes to the musical built on the songs of Huey Lewis and the News, which ran at Broadway's James Earl Jones Theatre in 2024. Jonathan A. Abrams wrote the book, from a story by Tyler Mitchell and Abrams. A woman who has staked everything on her family company's five-year plan meets a man who gave up his guitar for a corporate job, and both get a second chance at what they wanted. No director has been named yet.
The King and I: October 1–December 5, 2027
Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical closes the season, directed by Michael Fling and choreographed by Lainie Sakakura, with Jerome Robbins's original choreography credited. Anna Leonowens, a British widow, arrives in Bangkok to teach the King of Siam's children and finds herself learning as much as she teaches.
Three-show season ticket packages are available now to Goodspeed members through the box office on 860.873.8668. The Super Saver Series, for selected seats at Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evening performances, is $123 for all three shows.
Goodspeed, led by artistic director Donna Lynn Hilton, has produced musical theater on the banks of the Connecticut River since 1963. The full season is on goodspeed.org.
