A grand piano, a five-piece band in black tie and three singers out front: Going Bacharach: The Songs of an Icon is back Off-Broadway for an encore run at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater, through November 29.
The revue returns after engagements in New York and Chicago last season. David Zippel, the Tony and Olivier Award winner whose credits include City of Angels and Disney’s Hercules, directs. The Burt Bacharach songbook arrives in new arrangements by Adrian Galante, the Australian jazz musician who co-created the show and leads the five-piece band from the piano, doubling on clarinet.
The set list leans on the songs audiences already know, reworked rather than recreated: Alfie, The Look Of Love, What’s New Pussycat?, Promises, Promises, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, Do You Know The Way To San Jose? and Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head among them.
The vocalists rotate through the week. The company is Hilary Kole (Our Sinatra); Ava Locknar, from the show’s Chicago company; Meecah (Hamilton); John Pagano, Bacharach’s personally chosen male lead vocalist for 26 years; Julia Danielle Smulson, winner of the International Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Competition; and Alyssa Wray, of American Idol.
Earlier runs drew strong notices. Charles Isherwood, in The Wall Street Journal, called it “a musical revue done right… musically dazzling.” John McWhorter wrote in The New York Times that “it’s the most satisfying batch of Burt I have ever experienced,” and Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune judged it “absolutely not to be missed.”
Jack Lewin conceived the show and presents it through Lewin Productions, in association with Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, artistic producer). Lewin co-created it with Galante, Will Friedwald and Tedd Firth; Galante also handles orchestrations and music direction, and Firth is musical supervisor. Scenic design is by Christopher and Justin Swader, costumes by Frank Cazares, and lighting and sound by Matt Berman.
The theater is at 10 West 64th Street, and the run ends Sunday, November 29, 2026. Performances are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 8 p.m., with matinees on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. Seats are $69–$99, with premium seats at $129 and VIP packages from $159.
