Photo by Valerie Terranova Lincoln Center Theater has released the first production photos of creation stories and all the important importants, the world premiere by Mfoniso Udofia, ahead of the play’s opening night tonight, Thursday, October 1, at LCT3’s Claire Tow Theater.

The play is Udofia’s first for LCT3. The Nigerian American writer’s screen credits include 13 Reasons Why, A League of Their Own and Lessons in Chemistry, and here she turns to a close-focus play built with the shape of a myth, staged by Tamilla Woodard.

Its heroine is a Black woman in midlife, torn between the girl she once was, a daughter not yet born, the artist she works at being and the mother she may or may not become, as time runs short and her body sets its own terms. The play ranges across generations and technologies, from ancestors to AI and from dreaming to IVF, and Udofia folds music and ritual into a folktale of her own about the price of making anything new, a life included.

Savannah Commodore plays little girl/the uncome, Donnetta Lavinia Grays plays the raffia/alexa/mr. cornell, and Abigail C. Onwunali is thegrownwoman. Justyce Taylor is the understudy.

The design team is Jason Ardizzone-West (sets), Sarafina Bush (costumes), Alan C. Edwards (lighting), Bailey Trierweiler and UptownWorks (sound), Katherine Freer (projections) and Cassie J. Williams (hair and wigs). Adesola Osakalumi is movement director, casting is by The Telsey Office, and Siena Yusi is stage manager. The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust supports the production.

Tickets are on sale now from the Lincoln Center Theater box office at 150 West 65th Street, by phone at 212-239-6200, and online at LCT.org.
