Degenerates, Else Went’s new play about a handful of young men who have persuaded one another online that the odds were stacked against them from birth, has been extended a second time at Playwrights Horizons and will now play through November 1.
The run had already been stretched once, to October 18. This second extension adds another two weeks at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, where the world premiere began previews on September 16.
The production reunites Went with her wife, the director Emma Rosa Went, after Initiative at the Public Theater, which took a Drama Desk Special Award and a place on Vulture’s list of the best plays of 2025. Degenerates narrows the frame to a remote corner of the internet, where its men swap evidence that the game was lost before it began, until a relationship none of them saw coming shows what that fatalism costs. Playwrights Horizons bills it as darkly funny.
The company of five is Christopher Dylan White as Target, Zachary Desmond as Miller, Tyler Nowell Felix as Kemp, Juan Arturo as Serge/Chad and Olivia Rose Barresi as Stacy / All Women.
Plan on about two hours and 40 minutes: two acts totaling 100 minutes, a 15-minute intermission, then a 45-minute third act. Playwrights Horizons recommends the play for ages 16 and up, and its content note flags strobe lighting, smoking, partial nudity and a firearm that is never fired.

Tickets for Degenerates are on sale now for performances through November 1, 2026, at Playwrights Horizons’ Peter Jay Sharp Theater, 416 West 42nd Street.
