Barrett Doss will play Susannah in Wild Rose, the Glasgow country-music musical that begins its US premiere run at New York Theatre Workshop on November 24, alongside Madeline Brewer as Rose-Lynn Harlan and Mare Winningham as her mother, Marion.
Susannah is the employer who takes Rose-Lynn on as a cleaner, newly out of jail, and turns into the unexpected backer of her plan to get from Glasgow to Nashville.
Doss played Rita in Groundhog Day on Broadway and appeared in the Broadway revival of You Can’t Take It With You. Off-Broadway she was in Burning for The New Group. On screen she is Victoria Hughes in Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy, and she starred opposite Justin Hartley in the Netflix film The Noel Diary.
The company also includes Bri Sudia as Jackie, Reed Epley and Jackson Parker Gill as Lyle, and Ada Manie and Timea Kenny-Koncz as Wynonna, with Danny Burgos, Joe Carroll, Annabelle Duffy, Haley Gustafson, Ciara Alyse Harris, Jaye Ladymore, Linda Mugleston and Emily Grace Schultheis.
The musical is the stage version of the 2018 film that starred Jessie Buckley, and it has been adapted by the film’s own screenwriter, Nicole Taylor, the BAFTA-winning writer who went on to the One Day series. John Tiffany, who won a Tony for Once, directs, with choreography by Steven Hoggett and Vicki Manderson and music supervision by Sarah Travis and Nadia DiGiallonardo. The production had its world premiere at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh in March 2025.
The score draws on songs by female country artists, among them Brandi Carlile, Wynonna Judd, The Chicks, Patty Griffin and Caitlyn Smith, along with the film’s prize-winning original song Glasgow (No Place Like Home). It is produced by Patrick Daly, Gavin Kalin Productions and Barbara Broccoli, by special arrangement with New York Theatre Workshop.
Previews begin November 24, opening night is December 14, and the limited run ends January 10, 2027. New York Theatre Workshop is at 79 East 4th Street, and tickets are on sale at nytw.org.
